NPF ADOPT STERN MEASURES

TO CURB KIDNAPPING IN THE SOUTH EAST

The Inspector-General of Police, Sir (Dr.) Mike Mbama Okiro, CFR, NPM, mni, has ordered stern measures to be taken by the Police to stem the rising trend of kidnapping in the South-East geopolitical zone of the country.

At a close-door meeting with the AIG Zone 9, and the Commissioners of Police for Abia, Anambra, Enugu and Imo States, the IGP directed that more equipment and logistics be released to the Commands.   He also ordered the re-activation of re-enforced road blocks in the Commands to prevent crimes and check the spate of kidnappings.  The IGP directed that Police personnel are to be re-trained to effectively man the nipping points, search vehicles, but not to turn them to be avenues for corruption, warning that anyone caught abusing the strategy will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

The IGP reiterated the desire and mandate of the Nigeria Police Force to prevent crimes, apprehend and prosecute offenders and give lasting peace to Nigerians.
