IGP Ogbonna Onovo & 185 Others Bagged National Honours Award

President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan has conferred 2009 National Honours Award on the Inspector-General of Police, Ogbonna Onovo and 185 others. The IGP was honoured with the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR). President Goodluck Jonathan noted that the awardees merited the honours conferred on them, having distinguished themselves in all spheres of endeavors. He urged the awardees to see the award as a rare honour which should spur them to even greater service to God and their fatherland. He also described the awardees as national ambassadors and agents of change and urged them to always live up to expectations.

The President Jonathan also made a case for the preservation of the awards.He said, “The institution of national honours has been part of our national heritage that has blossomed since the First Republic, it should be preserved for the inspirations it offers our citizens for greatness.

“It is a veritable instrument to draw our attentions to the possibilities within the Nigerian enterprise despite the huge challenges we have.”

The President also noted that the brilliant profiles of the awardees attested to the fact that the country had an abundance of men and women of honour.
