NIGERIA POLICE REGRETS THE DEATH OF AREA COMMANDER IJEBU ODE  The Inspector-General of Police, Ogbonna Okechukwu Onovo, OON, NPM, mni regrets to announce the death of the Area Commander Ijebu Ode in Ogun State, ACP Omolodun Oladokun, which sad incident took place in the early hours of Saturday 5/12/2009. The 45 year old Assistant Commissioner of Police was abducted while pacifying some villagers who were protesting the death of their colleague. He was severally matcheted, slaughtered, roasted and hurriedly buried in a shallow grave. The Nigeria Police Force commiserates with the family, loved ones and colleagues of this gallant officer who has paid the supreme price in the course of protecting lives and property and in the promotion of Nigeria’s democracy. The IGP wishes to reassure the family of the deceased officer of his preparedness to cushion the effects of the loss, and to quickly bring the murderers to justice. The IGP seizes this opportunity to warn members f the public not to take the laws into their hands, and to accord due respect to Police officers, as an attack on a Police officer is an attack on law and order.
Trouble engulfed the sleepy town of Ijebu Ife on Friday 6th December 2009 when the vigilante at Ijebu- Ife beat up a boy known as Tailor and he died as a result of the beating. The youths in the area who were aggrieved because of the incidence took to the street and started destroying things. The Late Area commander led a team of policemen to the area and restored sanity after having a peaceful discussion with the youths and the family of the deceased. He left the town at 2.30 am on Saturday 7th December only to receive a distress call at 7.30 in the morning that the youths have started destroying properties again and with the hope that the youths will give him the audience as they did a day earlier, he got the rioters and raised his hands as a friend already known to them. Suddenly, somebody fired a shot at him from the crowd and the bullet hit him on the neck and he fell. The irate mob descended on him with matchet, broken bottles and dangerous weapons. He was then tied with rope and dragged from the market square to the house of their leader where they set him on fire.
Late ACP Omolodun Oladokun was born on 29th March 1964 In Lagos, he joined the force in March 1988, after graduating with a B.Sc (Geography) from University of Lagos. He has served in various capacities, in Lagos, Sokoto, Abia and Force CID. He was promoted Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) on 30th November 2006.
