Nigeria Police Assure Security for U-17 Tourney
AIG MD Abubakar: Chairman Security Committee, Nigeria 2007 The Nigeria Police has given an assurance that arrangements has been put in place to ensure adequate security especially in all designated venues of the FIFA under 17 World cup. The Force PRO, ACP Emmanuel Ojukwu, said in a news release that following the directive of Inspector General Ogbonna Onovo, the Nigerian Police have drawn a comprehensive operational order effectively covering hosting states, cities and centres. “Anti-riot Police officers and men have been deployed in strategic places to ensure water-tight security. Intelligence and Detective operatives as well as a full complement of dogs and horses have also been dispatched to states and cities as support forces. Zonal AIGs and States Command Commissioners of Police have been effectively briefed and instructed to ensure effective supervision of Squads and units”. Other arrangements: Special units to escort participating teams from airports to their hotels, and to the pitches; hotels hosting the teams adequately covered by armed anti-riot and intelligence operatives; elite Anti-terrorism Squads placed on red alert, to work hand in hand with other agencies and Units.”
